This off season will be a little scary. Two 🔑 pieces to this program, Big Al and Coach Gates. He took a team, some of whom are D2 level talent and made them competitive. Nearly beat Wright State and shared Co coach of the years honors. Iam a P5 AD and i look at that salivating. Gates will be a hot commodity in the coaching world. Start paying this guy Nagy level $$$$$ and soon. Still could lose him though. Then there is Al. Better believe P5 schools would take him. Gonna be an interesting spring and summer.

Only the 1st year of the contract is finishing. I give him credit for making the best out of a bad situation. Not ready to hold a parade down Euclid Ave yet.

The Vikes should have a solid guard line up and rotation next year. There should not be much fall off as they rotate players on and off the court.
If Al stays, he and Dante will form a decent front court. D Williams and Majak are an unknowns. I suspect Williams is not ready for prime time (given that Gates gave time to a host of players and I don't remember seeing him during HL play). The Vikes really need a couple more bigs. Like all previous Vike teams, this is the weak spot. The state of the Vikes front court next year will be in Al's hands.

Daylen Williams & Potoma didn't play once league play started. With all the offers they're making for 2020 have to think these 2 probably won't be back.im not sold on pg position Beaudoin who i think improved the most from beginning of the season but i still not sure he's top flight pg plus we dont know what his knee injury is. Did he tear acl? No word on how serious injury is.

If Al returns, there should be a measured improvement next year. I'm using the RPI as a gauge (measuring stick). The Vikes ended up about 280 this year. My expectation is that the Vikes move them into the 180 Plus or minus 10. That should place the Vikes in the upper half of the HL but not enough to place any higher than 3rd. (yes the HL has fallen on hard times)
As for PG, Beaudoin is sufficient for next year. The Vikes need improvement across the board. Since most of these guys were late arrivals, I'm not expecting a huge change in personnel (small to no xfer outflow this summer). Therefore, I'm not looking for major improvement until 3rd year of Gates contract.

Does anyone know if Williams qualifies as a redshirt? He may not have met the playing time threshold, but am not sure.

Does anyone know if Williams qualifies as a redshirt? He may not have met the playing time threshold, but am not sure. I don't think he qualifies for a "Redshirt". Below is an excerpt I copied from NCAA.org. Redshirt: In Divisions I or II, redshirting refers to someone who is enrolled full-time at a school, but does not play for an entire academic year for the sole purpose of saving a season of competition. A redshirt does not play in any college games or scrimmage in a given sport for an entire academic year, even though that student is otherwise eligible. If you do not play in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. However, if you play in even one second of a game as a college student-athlete, you are not a redshirt.

Gates being considered for Florida head coaching job. This one might be too good to pass up guys. Lol how ironic that Gates could end coaching Appleby after all. 🙄

Gates contract has already been revised (last year) and we did not make the NCAAs this year. I'm not excited about the chatter.

South Carolina fired Frank Martin. I was told Gates is in play there as a possible candidate.

The athletic director and him had a falling out at K-State. Him leaving was not exactly 100 percent voluntarily. They were pretty much sick of him.

These are the unfortunately realities You think CSU should automatically pay him more each time his name is bantered about? Remember what your response was when TOTO suggested that Hodge should investigate the Transfer Portal? This is the same thing. It's time to renegotiate when the team has won some games in the NCAAs. When he wants to leave, CSU will not be able to afford to keep him. There's your unfortunate reality.
