That move is a no brainer. The A-10 makes much much more money than the MVC. They have a much better TV contract. They gets more teams into the NCAA most years and their teams tend to advance in the tournament more often than they do in the MVC. Both of those also result in more money. Makes sense. I thought it was a reaction the conference's desire to expand. Have you noticed that Murry State was not an automatic acceptance? In reading the various MVC boards, there is a great deal of resistance of the private schools to accept public schools in the MVC. I also think the inclusion of KC and UTA is crazy talk. Those moves will wound that conference. In the world of Mid Majors, the talk of market size is not relevant. I heard the discussions regarding recruitment. However, I don't hear much about UTA in DFW. Ironically of the 2 UT(x) schools in DFW, UTD has a much better reputation (but is a D2 school).

I did a little reading on the dynamics regarding some of the rumored consideration for who the MVC will invite. Apparently it's some of the private schools advocating bringing schools from big markets. They figure it a form of advertising their schools brand to these cities. Hence their desire for programs like KC and UTA. That is why Murray did not get a quick invite and Belmont (Nashville) did. The added bonus is Belmont is Private. Funny if you go to the UTA message board, an outsider had to start the thread. You don't see a great deal of interest from their fan base (then again that board is fairly quiet). The Roos on the other hand, their board didn't have much hope to get an actual invite. They don't have facilities and would need to invest.
The big market strategy is also putting some HL programs back in play. I suspect the HL schools most likely to be considered are: MKE, WSU, NK, and UIC. At least those are the names I hear the most. The MVC expansion is all about tuition $s for the private schools. Demographics and high costs must be squeezing them to consider bringing public schools that happen to be in the right place.
The HL should definitely be on the phone with Murray St. and continue to expand.
