That stretch took place because of some defensive lapses. You can argue that if it was just the first overtime. You guys are entitled to your opinions. I trust the information I get. I can say this with a high degree of confidence. I have no idea why all the starters did not come back in at PFW or why Patton did not take a shot until the 2nd half. However, I did notice it; but did not think it was an underlaying factor in the loss. I just figured, if you play PFW enough times, they are going win some. Nah something was off about that game. CSU should have won. Gates wanted to see what his bench can do, it was a test, that they passed with flying colors btw, they took Fort Wayne's starters to 3 overtimes. I just felt at least in the 2nd OT put your Well Rested starters back in coach. You've made your point.

I think we have an answer! It's inside a great article by Terry Pluto That Feb. 14 game in Fort Wayne also saw Gates keep starters D’Moi Hodge and Torrey Patton on the bench for nearly all of the second half and the three overtime periods.
“(Spider) also didn’t play much,” Gates told me, meaning starting center Deante Johnson.
Why not?
“Because other guys were playing better,” said Gates. “That’s it.”
Gates talked about strong performances from Nate Jack, Yahel Hill, Broc Finstuen and others coming off the bench in that game.
But in the end, it still was a loss. How Dennis Gates kept Cleveland State basketball on track and won the Horizon League title

You won’t see it. Check his entire history with us he hasn’t once criticized a player publicly and I applaud him for it.

It seldom motivates the player; however, it's a great demotivator.
