No first-year CSU coach since Mike Boyd in 1990-91 has started conference play 2-0.
1996-97 - Rollie Massimino: 2-6 after first 8 games (with a brutal schedule), started 1-1 in conference and finished 9-19, 6-10.
2003-04 - Mike Garland: 4-4 after first 8 games before the wheels fell off (including the near upset of UNC), started 0-2 in conference and finished 4-25, 0-16.
2006-07 - Gary Waters: 5-3 after 8 games, started conference 0-2 and finished 10-22, 3-13.
2017-18 - Dennis Felton: 2-6 after 8 games, started conference 1-1 and finished 12-23, 6-12.
2019-20 - Dennis Gates: 4-4 after 8 games, started 1-1 in conference and finished 11-21, 7-11.

Halftime... Vikes had a big lead, the Titans worked their way back and hanging around. The Vikes need to clamp down in the 2nd half.

Wow. CSU is “on one” right now. Playing at a high level this is truly impressive considering all the turn over.

This team is playing at a high level. The defensive intensity is impressive, and they are finding ways to score even without great shooters. They did a good job today of adjusting to the zone and breaking it down from the inside. There was a stretch where they scored on 3 or 4 consecutive possessions on beautifully drawn up set plays. Kudos to coach Robinson for that.
I really like where they are right now and hope they can keep growing.

Tae Williams with by far his best game. He was active and aggressive on both ends. He even knocked down his first 3. He finished with 23 and 10.
Deshon Parker also kept up the high level play with his best offensive game as a Viking, finishing with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (and only 1 turnover) on 6-11 shooting. There was a second half stretch where he absolutely took over. I’ve never seen him have that level of confidence shooting the ball. If he keeps that up, it takes this team to another level. Parker also drew the assignment on Davis and held him to 7-21 shooting and 2-9 from 3. Not a bad day at the office.
Yahel Hill had his best game of the season too, scoring 19 and going 3-7 from 3. That was nice to see after a few quiet games from Hill.
And another solid outing from the bench with Woodrich scoring 12 and Lowder 8.

One more thing on Deshon Parker, he’s averaging 5.9 assists per game with a 4.1 assist to turnover ratio and he’s on pace for 183 assists.
If he keeps that up for entire season, he’d place 3rd all time on the CSU single season assist per game list, trailing only Mouse McFadden in 88-89 and Gravelle Craig in 92-93, he’d place 3rd on the total assists in a season list behind only Cedric Jackson in 08-09 and Norris Cole in 10-11, and he’d set the single season assist to turnover record by more than 1.5 (Shawn Hood holds the record with 2.5 in 84-85).
Those are some Hall of Fame names on that list and Parker is playing in that stratosphere right now.

I think that these next 3 opponents, 2 of which are on the road, are probably much better than any team we’ll face the rest of the year in the Horizon League. I expect CSU to drop all 3 games. Hopefully the several steps up in competition makes the team a little better headed into conference play.

All 3 teams ranked significantly higher in Ken Pom, they being said - I think you have a chance to win at least 1. My guess is St. Bonaventure is a winnable game. Kent is really good this year, and LMU will be difficult from a travel perspective across the country - these kids aren’t used to that.
