Taking a look at their team, they have one kinda local player, guard Tahj Staveskie from Sandusky high school. He was picked Second Team All-MAAC before this season. However he is out for this game which is a big blow to them.
Their best big man, Frank Mitchell is pretty big at 6'8", 240. He has scored in double digits in both of their games so far. But he is 1/7 from the free throw line this year, so definitely foul him if he catches the ball at the rim with an easy layup/dunk opportunity.
My biggest concern in this game is Canisius' three point shooting ability. In their two games this year, they shot 10/22 and 12/24 from three, good for 47.8% on the year and 5th best in all of Division I. CSU allows opponents to shoot 37.8% from three, which is 283rd in Division I.
Defensive rebounding was a big issue for CSU last year, and appears to be just as big of an issue this year. CSU ranks 332nd in Division I at allowing opponents to get offensive rebounds. Canisius is 144th in DI at getting offensive rebounds. So my biggest concerns for this game are the opponents' three point shooting and offensive rebounds.

Good summation. Early season stats can tend to skew big time though....I would look for their 3 pt shooting to cool off and their offensive rebounding ability to cool off also. Of course, our defense has to show improvement as well in order for that to happen. I think we handle Canisius tonight, although I am not as sure we cover the spread....seems a BIT high, but we'll see. Should be another good test for our guys!

Very spotty 1st half...Tae Williams on the bench almost the entire half after picking up 2 quick fouls....I think that threw off our substitution rotations a bit. Tristan got it going later in the half. We are MUCH better than Canisius and definitely cant let this one get away...

Dominant second half. Sitting at 3-1 and easily could be 4-0. Looking like another 20+ win season and we should be in contention for the Horizon League title.

Canisius was 47.8% from behind the arc coming in....they shot 17% tonight. Proves my point about early season stats being mis-leading....(great Viking defense also).

I’m loving the increased usage of the smaller lineup (that we spent a lot of time debating lol) with Enaruna at 5 and Williams at 4. Adding Woodrich to that lineup at the 3 keeps good length on the floor even without a true center.
I’ve been a little worried about PG play. Lowder is probably best off the ball and Chase Robinson hasn’t impressed me with his handles/passing/ability to take care of the ball. But both are getting the job done. Robinson has shown some real offensive ability which is a welcome addition to that second unit.
Tevin Smith is showing flashes now too. He had a really efficient game today. Does a lot of things well on both sides. Looks to be a nice addition.
I’d play Debrick more at the expense of Arnett. Debrick seems to have more offensive game and is a better rim protector. I’d start Debrick, continue to use Enaruna for stretches, and have Arnett ready as the 3rd big when needed.

It's a W!
I really hope the coach makes them look at the 1st half. Lazy passes and players not making themselves available when the guy with the ball picks up their dibble.
Thankfully, the Griffs ran out gas in the 2nd half.

I said when I saw the closed scrimmage for season ticket holders that Debrick was much more talented and should have been starting. I never understood why Arnett was starting. I guess so we can have a legit big man off the bench?

I know that user1 looked at me halfway through the first game when the CSU Superfans made the trip to Duquesne and he said to me then that point guard was going to be an issue for this team. Hopefully we bring in a good one for next year because this year, it kinda is what it is.

Rice or Young would be the answer at point Looks like Danny Young will definitely be redshirted. Jalin Rice has played just a little bit and hasn't really shown much when he has played.

Young should be more than ready to contribute by next season with a full year in the system (and weight room). Still optimistic about him.

Who knows?...May have an injury issue, grades issue, eligibility issue, or maybe he is fine with redshirting rather than be the 4th or 5th guard on this season's team.

Everyone benefits from time in the weight room. Look at the difference in Eneruna and Woodrich compared to last year. If you saw Appleby at Florida, he was WAY bigger and stronger than when he was at CSU...

Why keep Young out 'ANOTHER YEAR" if he's that good, iam sure he ate well and worked out at Spire. That two years sitting out. He hasn't gained enough weight and muscle by now?

Not missing your point ede...its all speculation right now, isn't it?...you asked why he isn't playing this year and I gave you several "possible" reasons...there may be others as well...
