But something in general just feels really off with this team given how much experience is on the roster I know, they mentality check away from home? They lose to teams they should beat. Robinson needs to start challenging these guys to start winning road games. What team will show up Sunday, who knows 🤔

You just wont see a better college basketball game than that. It had just about everything. Win or Lose...CSU really is a fantastic value for your sports entertainment dollars. Haven't lost at home now for over a year (17-0 over that span). Need to use this as a springboard and start being better on the road. GO VIKES!

Really fun game. I’m ready for Marquese Warrick to graduate already lol.
I think Arnett is giving us some really solid minutes. 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. I wish he’d be a bit more aggressive when he has the ball in the paint though. He had one monster dunk today that was great, but 2-3 other times he had a finesse finish that didn’t convert when he could have dunked.
For all of our PG talk, check out the combined stat line of Lowder and Robinson today: 19 points, 5 assists, 0 turnovers.
Shoutout to Tevin Smith who I think had the 3 best defensive plays of the game, including the game sealing block on Warrick. He was a difference maker today with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 22 minutes.
Enaruna put up 24, 12 and 5 and I made it this far without mentioning him. He’s that good that a game like today seemed routine.
We’ve had some debates here in the past about fouling or not in a situation like today when we’re up 3 on the last possession, and I admit it’s a tricky call. We lost two games last year - one against NKU when we didn’t foul and another (I think against Oakland) when we did. Today I thought we misplayed it three different times. When Warrick had the ball at the end of regulation, he dribbled around until the clock was under 3 seconds before starting his move to get a shot off. We should have fouled there. Then in OT we decided to foul him but it was with 7 seconds remaining which was too early and allowed them to extend the game. Luckily we made both free throws and they still needed a 3. But then we allowed Warrick to get another shot off instead of fouling as he ran down to the corner with 2 seconds left. The block by Smith saved the day, but he could just as easily been whistled for a foul, and Warrick doesn’t miss from the line. Hopefully an area of improvement going forward for Coach Robinson and staff. I’d rather they never foul in that situation than flip flop on their strategy each time and be inconsistent with its execution.

I feel the “sweet spot” for fouling is 4 to 5 seconds left. I felt that it was right to foul Warrick all the time because he had beaten us with a buzzer beater last year @ NKU, and he’s just in general one of the conference’s top players. I don’t like to give top players in the conference the opportunity to beat us. Woodrich had that big three that won the game and hit some clutch free throws. He is still inconsistent at time but is playing the best he has in his career this year. Tevin Smith has been a great addition. Had prior D1 experience and it seems that every game he has a couple offensive rebound putbacks or hits a clutch three or yesterday with defense. A very underrated player that I don’t think any of us have fully appreciated this year.

Also as a side note, I looked up the last 7 times CSU and NKU have met (across mens and women’s basketball both). It’s pretty insane:
1/19/2023: NKU 57, CSU 56 (M)
1/22/2023: NKU 73, CSU 69 (W)
2/16/2023: CSU 57, NKU 56 (W)
2/19/2023 CSU 64, NKU 63 (M)
3/6/2023 CSU 63, NKU 60 (OT) (W) HL Tournament semifinal
3/7/2023: NKU 63, CSU 61 (M) HL championship game
Today: CSU 88, NKU 85 (OT) (M)
Wins: CSU: 4 NKU: 3 Total points: CSU: 458 NKU: 457
That’s pretty wild. That’s a true rivalry and one of the better ones in college basketball that one one talks about or realizes.
